X Power on 20s ? (20" wheels)

Are the lowering springs progressive rate?

I changed from 17" to 18" on our Boxster and the ride quality improved, partly down to fresh Michelin rubber as opposed to worn Bridgestone rubber.

No doubt there will be compromises but the cars in the OP look awesome and I could definitely imagine glancing back as you walk away after parking.

Just having a play @salty!

What configurator are you using to get your pictures m8?

Will lowering my XPower make it more susceptible to the adverse effects of driving through surface water ?
To be honest, don't know. Wouldn't have thought so. I've lowered loads of my my cars, always with H&R springs and never had any problems, including driving through surface water. Any deeper than surface water you would slow down anyway in any car. Unless your talking about the Battery underneath, and again wouldn't have thought so. These are only my opinions of course. ??

I looked @ doing 19” on my white x power. Research told me that 1: MG purposely didnt lower the X Power because it “squats” under hard acceleration & launch mode. 2: Larger rims affect range (youtube experiment with MG4). Ive got some 8mm wheel spacers coming. Below are a couple of my wheel choices which started because I didn’t “love” the stock x power alloys. As for cleaning issues I have applied Supagard to my paint (after paint prep & tar spot removal) & did the wheels too, the result is the brake dust cant stick & the wheels stay cleaner, a quick hose & theyre mint again, Ive waxed the calipre covers too.
Below shows my paint & alloys I wanted. The H&S springs are on ebay.
Have you fitted the spacers yet?

According to Chinese contacts 20” do not fit ? I am told 19” is fine. Does anyone in ?? UK know?
If so please tell us ?
Have a look at the thread on here.
"Wild thing got Wilder" In the X Power forum. Somebody's already fitted 20s to their X Power. Needs lowering though. ???

What an X Power could look like on 20s and lowered, personally think it looks awesome. ?? A few different colours for comparison. Thoughts?

if only it was intuitive to use ?

I'm pleased to report that my addition of 20s has resulted in a win win on all counts. It has certainly cut down roll in the corners due to the lower profile 35 tyres and the slightly wider track has almost eliminated that annoying LKA as it only chimes in if you're actually on the white line. Finally, not having to lower the car means it's as comfortable as ever, in fact better as the wider 255 tyres are not so affected by ruts and the dreaded pot holes.

Looks good, have you driven at the vibes speeds yet? I dont know if your car had them or not.

Really appreciate this feedback. I was going 19” & H&R Springs. Reading this Im thinking just go 20”.
Do I need them fitted at a garage that offers lazer 4 wheel alignment? to make sure they are tracked & cambered correctly? Finally I expected to hear that the ride was harsh now with bits falling off when potholes strike, so this feedback is very helpful. Your car (same colour as mine) looks great with big shoes on ?

I guess I was lucky as I never had the dreaded vibes before and the answer is, no I'm pleased to say I still haven't, plus as I said it there's less roll with the 35 profile tyres. I have to tell you though the upgrade wasn't cheap, the new wheels need 7mm longer bolts, then there's a new set of TPMS valves, larger 60mm MG badges and of course a new set of tyres, so it was over fifteen hundred notes in the end even with budget Tomket sport 255/35/20, I went for them because they are B rated in the wet and the reviews were very good. I had A rated on my previous Stilo Abarth and they wore out in short order, so since we have been warned about high degradation on EVs I thought B rating to be the sensible choice. I have driven the car hard a few times and the tyres are really good, wet or dry.
Personally I honestly can't see the point in lowering unless you're a frequent track day freak (a road to nowhere in my opinion), what's the use of wearing out your tyres and motor (or worse risking a trip back Home on a low loader) when you can't win anything, or if you press on to hard they black flag you for "racing" Track days are great to get a chance to drive a dream unaffordable car, I was gifted a track drive in an F430 a few years back, it was a brilliant experience - but not in my car thanks!

Interesting you needed 7mm longer bolts,
why? Unless you're using spacers. And as for the point of lowering, s'pose in theory you would get slightly better handling, because of the slightly lower centre of gravity. Nothing to do with track days, just normal everyday driving. BUT mostly because it looks so much bloody better. ???

Well I have a brand new set of H&R lowering springs for the Xpower still in the box and they are about to go on Ebay. I got cold feet over the idea to be honest, looking at the the before & after photos it's looks a bit lower on the rear to me, so I thought what's it going to look like with any amount of weight in the back. Then I read accounts from others who said you gonna have to mess with camber angles a few months later and be prepared for it to get even lower as apparently all lowering kits do when they settle. So I couldn't be doing with all that, I'm delighted with both the look and improved handling with the 20s. I really can't imagine that you could get around corners any quicker with it sitting just 1" and 1/4" lower - can you?
Ps: the reason for the longer bolts is the wheels I used are obviously thicker than the STD rims and when you look at the threads in the hubs, the thread doesn't even start for about 5mm below the surface. Yes (as stated on my previous thread) you need spigots not shims as the bore size will be different on other wheels.

Agreed. I do not drive like a bank robber & simply want my car to look the “Mutts Nuts”. Did you know you can buy RR style self levelling centre hub badges?? Pictured below. Also here are the 20” rims Im going for. Thanks again for your informative post & pictures ?

I have a grey X Power. Ride can be quite hard over uneven surfaces and speed bumps. The bigger wheels and lowered suspension looks great but I don't think passengers would thank you

Not sure about the ride quality if lowered but my Xpower on 20s has certainly improved the ride and if you checkout my thread "wild thing got Wilder" you will see the other favourable changes.
