Xpower as a hot hatch - cornering in particular

I tend to opt for custom with max power, sport steering but comfort pedal response so it doesn’t feel quite such a hair trigger lunatic heh.
OPD all the way for me too. I’m pretty sure the custom setup with sport horsepower means you get AWD, just I like it with a few more comforts than full sport mode.

Eco is perfectly acceptable (there, I said it!) it’s RWD and still more powerful than a trophy I believe as it’s got the ER motor at the rear?

I’m still not out of the “gunning it at most lights” stage yet though ? it doesn’t get me any further ahead in traffic but BOY does it feel good ? and STILL for less pence per mile than I could hope for from hypermiling the i30 estate (affectionally known as the Big Blue Slug)

Too be honest Brettus, (don't tell anyone else)
I find I default to eco mode now most of the time.
Right hand shortcut button for sport when I "need"?? to administer a lesson in Physics to a pretender.
Which is happening quite a lot surprisingly ?

My wife called me a "fast little monkey" the other day.
Not sure what she means.....
(GPS laaaaaaags behind.)

We need a book on which XPower owner will get points first ?
Remarkably easy to find yourself over, especially dangerous as the speedo is surprisingly accurate ?
??
About time, a manufacturer with an accurate speedo!
I noticed it straight away.
In my last vehicle, I could put the cruise control on 33 to get the electronic roadside speed displays to flash 30.
In the MG it's dead on 30.
Well 20 now!!! ?

Your wife might call you that, but those you left behind will be saying “look at that ….hole" ?

Yes I know.
Weird isn't it.
If I saw someone doing it, I would probably go "Look at that ****"

On the other hand, when I'm doing it it's
"Lighten up officer, just having a bit of fun" ?

Guilty as charged, I can assure you, I will be doing the same!

I did think so with CooperS as your forum name! ??
I am 56 now, and to be honest, 99% of the time, I am a careful and conscientious driver.
And then sometimes.......
I find myself first at a set of lights (videos removed to avoid incrimination) or engineer being at the front with a cheeky move across to the gap in a 4 lane roundabout.
And....... I am bloody seventeen again and the Traffic Light Grand Prix is in full effect!!!
(whether anyone else is "playing or not")

Takes me right back to my little Vauxhall Viva 1.0. Yellow, with L plates in Bristol.
It was April 1985 and I am at a set of traffic lights in St George, on my way home. It is around noon.
I pulled up next to a Rover SDI 3500 V8.
Recently passed 17 year old M8 in the front seat.
Me, a learner (obviously James Hunt) Ready to take him on.
As soon as I saw amber I was off!
Did him easily of course because the owner of the Rover was not in the least bit trying, would not give me the time of day or would indulge me in such childishness!! ?
A victory that still lives large in my memory today?
Oh dear, silly old bugger.

When I was young I remember being in the car (Fiesta 950 Pop) with my Dad at some traffic lights. Some youngsters (but obviously older than me) were next to us in a bigger, faster car and revved their engine. My Dad said "watch this", and when the lights changed he left them for dead (for about 10 yards) ........ ?

Much of the price of a vehicle is in its suspension system; its one of the reasons why the German Marques cost more. I wouldn't expect too much from any of the MG4's given their amazing price with a significant chunk of that being for the battery. My wife's MG 4 Trophy certainly doesnt take too kindly to being thrown into bends - but that is not something for which the car was designed.

I think you've stumbled into an XPower thread m8, where I do believe the suspension has in fact been designed to be exploited.
Considering the weight of the car I can attest to it having being brilliantly designed for UK roads, and whilst driving within the limitations of the speed limits and common sense, I think it handles very well and has been very well judged by MG engineers.

? been there got the t shirt ? Sorry to JAMLC for going off topic.
Yes, Apologies.?

Wonder if anyone wants to fess up yet?!
Gotta be someone by now :) I try not to get sucked in by the chavs & boy racers, but today there was a guy in an Audi RS6 (I think) in Southampton and apart from the lack of indicating to change lanes, he just seemed to want to show off. I took the bait and next minute was at 87 and dropped back. Gotta remember how quickly we can get up into the naughty numbers. Although saying that, I test drove a Tesla Model S Plaid yesterday (purely for fun as I was booked in to TD the revised Model 3) - That wasan experience. Unfortunately, was an accompanied TD due to the value of the car and the fact you could easily kill yourself or others in a split second.

You'll probably enjoy this video of the Model S Plaid with Track Pack driven fast around the Nürburgring by Misha Charoudin then ??. I'm waiting for someone to let him drive their Xpower !!

Me too!

But I've got a sneaky suspicion it won't complete a full lap, if the last video is anything to go by!
We will see ?

Nah M8.
Clean as a whistle.

And it really shouldn't be ???

Ridiculous phrase "Clean as a whistle"

Can't imagine a whistle that has been used to be very clean!!

Not got mine yet but 4WD when pushing on will understeer so nothing strange if XPower does the same…

The trick is, if trying to push on, to drive accordingly…lift off, brake, nose in then power…well I think that’s how it worked for me with other 4WD on track at least…

In controlling the car, if using brakes, do many people left foot brake…?

Anything will oversteer given too much speed and P.P. technique.

The X Power is so capable it's mind blowing, and far too fast to be belting around at anything approaching the abilities of this car on the road.

I've always said there is a time and a place for having fun, and for anything approaching relative safety, the track is the only option.

(Shut up Grandad!)

Yes I drive mine quickly, but very rarely anywhere near what this thing is capable of, on the road.

(Apart from despatching pretenders with its devastating straightline performance.
Obvs?)

Edit. I can left foot brake but see above.
Irrelevant on the road.

yeah ive lost my Xpower a few times now in normal and sport modes with all the aids on in the wet!

Im going to chalk it up to the terrible stock tyres software and just being out right to powerful for its means..

when I say lost it slid around a bend where the stability / torque vectoring / traction control just did little to nothing

It constantly loses traction in the wet on heavy acceleration in a straight line ..

I truly think the tyres are big part of the problem !!

i may lower it with the H&R springs at some point just im looking at more to get them fitted than to purchase the springs got quoted near $850aud to fit $700aud springs..

Dont really think springs are my issue money better spent on to better tyres !!

upgraded shocks ( may help )

maybe im expecting to much the 2012 s60 never lost control like this car does ..

even with less HP i think there something not right with the X powers traction to slide that bad in wet conditions

its not uncontrollable to the point of very dangerous but its just very lose in the wet ..

Agreed.
It's dire wet performance was the last push required to change out the stock items.
