Xpower as a hot hatch

Bloke down end of close has an EV6 GT, did not realize it was so quick.🤔

Yep, they are bloody quick! But quite a bit heavier than an X Power.
Would love to see a straight line, shootout, between an X Power, an EV6 GT
and an Ironic 5N. Would be very interesting. 🙂👍

I'd do the lot of them before breakfast.

Not after.

Portly.

Ive read and seen that the the KIA ev6 gt matches the ioniq 5N for straight line performance but the N is the track monster with all the bells and whistles ..

Mind you though in Australia you're looking at 55k drive away for a MG4 X power brand spanking new VS 118k to 124k for the ev6gt and the ioniq 5 N so yes for the ioniq 5 N with its 478kw 3.4 0-100km with boost and a top speed of 260km/h you're paying over double the money !!

Strong argument can be made with both the MG4 X power and the ioniq 5 N: where would you really use all the power unless you're tracking your car?

Then the X power kinda wins as its still less than half the price of the other 2 !!

That said if i had 120k or was willing to spend that on a EV the ionic 5 N would be sitting in my driveway no doubts. It's an absolute beast of a EV nothing really comes close IMO !!

Personally with some super good mods to the X power ( while you could never match the ioniq 5 N for power and top speed )

Add light weight wheels, lowered springs , Koni adjustable shocks , sort the roll bar issue, slap a bit more down force over the front wheels , bigger race brakes from brembo , some decent UHP tyres

Tart up the interior with some Recaro racing seats in the front ..

That stuff would seriously make the X power a monster on track as well let alone on the road ..

Less than another 50k spent on the ioniq 5 N !!

Im just waiting on my fix !!

Got the lowered H&R springs in the box waiting !!

then new tyres !!

Im going to price up a fitment and cost of the regular MG4 front sway bar ..

After market shocks and performance brakes are non existent .. sadly !!

light weight wheels are a no go there is a limit to where your spending good money over bad. 3k for wheels is a bit excessive ..

would rather factory wheels as they have to adhere to strict design rules for the car so !!

priced up $60 a wheel to powder coat stocky Xpower wheels all black..

found a guy who mobile wraps cars looking to black out the sliver rear and side accents !!

not sure about seats the sensor for the start up may cause issues ..

OHH and BTW there is a FUSE that one of the mechanics told me about that disables ALL traction and stability control for the full on side ways pure un aided AWD 320kW 600Nm fun !! :) :)

Because as it stands you cannot actually fully disable the traction and stability control via the infotainment screen its always there in some form or another you need to pull the fuse !! :)

Not sure ive got the cojones these days to try !!

Actually his is a 22 plate, just looked at some on Autotrader and his might be 320bhp, so could still have him.😂.

I think that would be the GT-Line not a true 576bhp EV6 GT which can do a 3.2s 0-60 😉👍

Are you up for that challenge @Bricktop X PWR ?😁😉👍

I think someone had one on the Nürburgring and TBH the Xpower was'nt up to serious track work. It only lasted about one lap before power reductions etc.

Slightly off topic as they are saloons😉 , however with regard to ICE vs EV in a performance car, this is an interesting watch, especially the end where a very good point is made. I won't give it away but it's quite a good and amusing review IMHO. A professional production too 👍

That’s why I say it needs a bit of work for track work but like the ioniq 5 N which has also been blasted around Nurburgring and done so quite successfully..

Give the X power better brakes better tyres and a better suspension package and it will be a little track monster..

Your almost never ( with current battery life)
Have a ev beat an ice car on track lap after lap you will be super lucky to get 5-10 laps with EV’s even on a small track ..

Let alone 1 to maybe 3 laps of Nurburgring!!

Mind you not sure how many people are buying EV’s for track days maybe 2% !!

I know some folk, love track days. Fair enough. But personally I don't give a toss about the IONIQ 5n being a better track car. Or that ICE cars are better on the track. I just know my X Power is fantastic on the normal roads. That'll do for me. 🙂👍

It’s not necessarily that the ioniq 5 N is a better track car it’s the little things that make it a fun car simulated gears better handling the drift mode ..

MG need to look at what the X power can be the basics are there it just needs the refinement..

Would love to see more aftermarket parts become available Koni coil over shocks brembo brake packages

Better standard tires !!!
(That’s a MUST if any saic tester sees this )

MG’s issue is they are in a tricky place at the moment they release a X power as the cheapest most powerful ( hot hatch some would call it) car they have ever done generating interest in the brand but with one step forward and 2 back by stalling on the vibe issue ..

Yet the MG4 out sold Tesla this month in Australia ( due to their aggressive pricing ).

I agree the X power is a fun car BUT what if it was better??

Take the cyberster at 120k in Australia I would already buy the ioniq 5 N at the same price if I was at the level of money..

Cool car but rushed to market vs Porsche which people would still buy Porsche ( because it’s a Porsche )
The little badge on the front makes all the difference..

They want to shift 40k cybersters a year in Australia ( dealer told me ).
In a country that for the most part doesn’t like EVs and their top 3 selling cars are all big utes like the Ford Ranger and Hilux.

That said you give me a refined X power with some copied features from the Ioniq 5 N at 65k 400kW AWD then I’m sold 👍

Mmm, different, and that's good. Probably would, embarrass a few, from the lights.
Very interesting if they ever make a 500bhp version. 😉🙂👍

Alpine A290 is only a few grand more - I know where my money would go.

Agreed. But even that's a no from me. It's far too slow. 😉🙂👍

Love child of a 911 and a fiat 500, I don’t think it gets the good side of either IMHO 🤷‍♂️
I’m glad to see more coming out though and for someone it might be the softer curves they’ve been looking for.

Lots of interesting comments and people giving the Chinese manufacturers advice about designing better cars if they want to he successful in Europe. Without Europe and Trump's USA Chinese cars sell very well in the multiple millions. They do look similar to other cars as the designers are hired from those companies. Stealing IP, that's another discussion; I just don't think they care too much.

Not sure what advice Davey boy can give Chinese manufacturers from his sofa. People want cars for various reasons. I can envisage a young woman choosing the GWM Ora over the Alpine.

Some of the Chinese cars come with many features like the crab parking feature, rear wheel steer, 360° tank turns, summon, floating on water that seem like gimmicks but make them stand out against dull competition. Standard spec is what used to be expensive options on European cars. Its just that some of these extra features may be removed once in Europe to dull them down to be like the rivals. Boring.

Piston heads forum seems to be full of people who can't wrap their head around the changing landscape of the automotive industry. Can change the design of the GWM Ora. Then it will be a "copy" of something else.
