MG4 Software Update Thread

FWIW I noticed improved responsiveness with 1100R33 on the SE. (I recall commenting about this in my thread about this software release).

My Luxury/Trophy did improve a lot regarding responsiveness when updated from 1300R31 to R44, but I have noticed that the startup time for the infotainment now is significantly longer with R46 as it now always has a full startup.

Jury still out on LKA, but it seems to be gentler (more nudging and beeping and less jerking) than before. The car is definitely better all round after the update.

Question:
The pull down menu LKA button, is that in place from R59 only?

I went from R33 to R46 and had the same experience - startup is slower and it is more important to wait before doing anything (especially for CarPlay where if you plug in too early it now won't work), but the interface is now pretty responsive when trying to press buttons and type, so once started it is a big improvement.

I haven't had enough time on r41 to judge it because I was quickly moved to r46 after delivery.
I cannot say the current interface is responsive. Nor is it easy to always touch the right spot. This is related too pressing or touching. Which means if you make contact on a larger surface, the interface does not respond.
I put a protector on it and it does seem ro help a bit. But could just be subjective ...

We can only dream of an improvement if multiple owners coming from r46 experience it on r59.

Yes.

My car is going in tomorrow for various things: MG campaign RC008 -door locking, SC47 EH32 CCU Software update and SCUK001 Software updates.

As I'm currently on version 1100R16 it might be a bit of a lottery as to what I end up with, as Richmond Portsmouth don't seem to be that on the ball when it comes to servicing.

Any idea from the above information what I'll end up with? It's a very long thread to do a search on!

I could be wrong, but I think the latest software for the SE is R33 (a different R33 to the Trophy one!)

That's the latest Infotainment version.
"Latest software" is meaningless as there's lots of different pieces of software.

@SueH You probably won't get anything unless you've asked/complained about issues that affect the Infotainment - eg Bluetooth unpairing, radio favourites not saving, etc.
Your dealer might update the infotainment out of courtest, but most don't as they can't be bothered wasting time (ie money) doing it if you haven't indicated any problems with it.

Tell them your infotainment is faulty - Bluetooth drop outs regularly and it doesn't have the external temperature display that should be top right of the large display. Also I don't get any audible instruction from Android Auto navigation if I'm playing the radio (works fine if streaming music or radio).

Mine is in for its second service at the end of the month and I'm on R13 so I have told them of the faults I have and I want it updated to R33 so we will see if they do...

Thanks all, I've already pointed out the absence of a temperature display.

I should point that it's also going in for the oil breather replacement! I complained about a leak soon after I got the car in September 2022 and they did something which seemed to help, but I hope it wasn't just reducing the fill level!

As they gave me a response date of about 3 months when my car was about to brick I haven't been too impressed with them. Resolved it myself as it was a 12V battery issue and disconnection worked.

Nope, I have it on R46 as well - which I got back in November.

Had my first service yesterday. The only update applied was one for auto high beam sensitivity (Auto high beam was useless, maybe it is less useless now, will see when it gets darker again)..

Just updated to R59 on Trophy Long Range
Tuesday 4th June.

Updated to new version fixed a lot of problems from R46.
Enclosed is a letter from my dealer regarding the update.

That's exactly the same as how 1100R33 works on the SE. It's not great problem to click Home > HVAC > Adjust > Home > AA/CP

Alternatively, map the right star button to the HVAC - that should show the popup control screen, even if AA/CP is running.

@SueH try to badger your dealer to install 1100R33 - it's really worth it (IMHO). The lack of external temperature display can be seen as a safety issue - maybe not right now, but certainly in winter. :)

Although the SE version never had the HVAC dropdown, it was nice to have the drop down menu in CarPlay.
I wonder if a future 1100Rxx version will also remove the drop down when in CP/AA

You can also use MG voice control I think. I already do that now.

Hmm, my workshop/dealer told me today, that MG Austria refuses to upgrade my xpower to R59 because of loads of bugs.
The dealer also mentioned, they have sold quite a bunch of MG4, but I am the only owner complaining about flaws and bugs
and also to tell me to have just one customer having a xpower - me.

Well I took it for a long drive out and all the bugs I had with R46 have been fixed in R59. Bluetooth connection is stable , high beam now works correctly. When in cruise control the car no longer slows down on a slight bend. Lane assistance is far less aggressive. Icons now show on BBC radio stations, best part of all all speed camera signs are picked up and shown not missed one since having R59, in R46 most of the time it didn’t work. Plus more improvements to type down. So far found nothing negative to report.
Sounds like your dealer is making an excuse not to do the upgrade.

That's great although this isn't all down to R59 - LKA and ACC are module updates, not controlled by Infotainment. Probably also true of high beam behaviour.

Another thing I forgot to mention. The Trophy was very hit or miss recognising speed camera signs. That seems to be fixed now picks up the speed signs ok.

It is good to know that the ACC update give a 1 km/h increase also in Norway. So then I will specify at first service that I do not under any circumstance would like that update. That is a big downgrade! Norwegian country roads, change often from 60 km/h to 80 and back. Then I will have to press 20 times to do a task I can do in 4 presses today (and without looking that the instrument cluster). Then 30 seconds later, I have to press 20 times to get down to 60 again. You can just hold the button you say? -I could, but then I would have to be constantly looking at the instrument bezel to hit my target set speed, and not on the road. Not anything I would like. So I guess I have to live with that the car slows down a bit in some corners. Coming to thing about it, should they even touch any software in service? It works ok today. Would like it to continue that way.
