MG4 Software Update Thread

Hi all, i have an 23 plate MG4 SE SR. Just took it into the RRG MG as it had a myriad of issues.

1. EBS kicked in for no reason nearly causing someone to go into the back of me.

2. HVAC would intermittently not kick in heat unless you set it to high was still blowing cold even on 32 degrees.

3. Android auto buttons overlapping since service / last update.

3. Fault with door mirror though this was just a loose wire.

Part of the fix they updated the MPU version to R33 but said they do not update the MCU version so it is still on 69.1.1.1 is this correct or should they have updated both.

Since update the HVAC is still not working correctly and i have a new fault. The left * function key will not let me register anything to it.

Anyone has these issues themselves and can advise if they should have updated the MCU version?

They ended up downgrading and upgrading the software which appears to have resolved the issues.

One thing they did find is most of the cars ECU's were not coded to the car or upgraded before it left the original dealership. To upgraded them after the fact they have quoted me £260. Not going to i am not sure if I will get another MG after this one.
 
If what they say is true then the car was not of acceptable quality as it didn't meet the manufacturer's specification. (IMHO) Therefore any costs involved in bringing the goods to specification lie with the seller not the consumer.

Its a leased vehicle. The MG garage contacted the company who holds the maintenance contract but they refused to cover the upgrade. I am going to contact the lease company tomorrow to see what they can do.

I think you've just answered two questions I've had for a while now.
a: The software can be downgraded (plenty have claimed it can't be)
b: The dealers do have access to the older/other versions if they know where to look.

In terms of the older software they said they were able to try the downgrade as they found a USB with an older version on it. This leads me to believe they may only have access to the latest versions from MG.
 
Neither ... an LKA update is coming, but there's been no announcement as yet as to when it will arrive. (Apparently all registered keepers will receive a letter/email from MG when it is available).

  • For 24 model year MG4 the improved software will be available the middle of July.
  • For 23 model year MG4 and any earlier versions, the software will be available in early August.
As soon as this has been confirmed, the update will be released to the network.

We're past early August...

Ah, but did they say which year it would be available?

Clearly it is delayed, but it is coming.
 
Collected the car from its service, dealers applied every update to every system they could (so no LKA), and I got the update to the UI so you can swipe down to turn off the LKA quickly while driving. It's also now displaying the official icons for radio stations, I'll see what has changed over the next few days.
They also fixed the undertray. Not sure how, I'll take a photo to post later.

That's good to hear.

For myself, my car is going in for diagnostics on some issues next week, but even if they fix the AEB and LKA issues, I will still need to go into the settings to turn off the speed limit reader which constantly gets the speed limits wrong.

Definitely looking in our next car for something that supports driver profiles and makes it trivial to select my settings without a preflight. Be nice if it booted up quickly too.
 
My SE is showing R10 software, don’t have a clue if this is the latest one or not. I’m wondering if the MG4 just downloads and updates the software itself when a new version is released. Although if that was the case why include the “detect new software” button.
The detect new s/w button does nothing, 18 months later, maybe OTA updates may come one day, but there is some debate that OTA updates from a Chinese company is a national security problem!
R10 is very old, the latest available is R59 for infotainment. Check with your dealer for pending updates.
 
I had more issues week before last. Got in the car and got a bunch of failures including airbags, ACC and auto hold. After being locked for 10 minutes the errors had cleared. These cars are unbeleivable. I know I won't be keeping it for the full duration of the finance (the used values on new PCP's are now 3k below what my GFV is so I doubt I'll be losing anything). Its gotten to the point where the car is just untrustworthy, which is a shame because I really want to like it.

Its so odd, there seems to be no pattern or cause to the failures, its almost like the boot up sequence for the control modules gets its self in a twist once in a while.

The unlock button on the drivers door handle has also packed in after 20 months and 11k miles so I have reverted to using the key fob (no biggie as this is the first car I have owned with keyless entry).

On the old version of the infotainment software if I turned on the demister or heater using the physical switches or the right star button the heating screen would disappear after a few seconds. On R59 the screen remains until I push the home screen button. Is this normal?
 
Yes. It's always been like that on the SE, and the disappearing screen seems to have been an unintentional bug in the early Trophy software. Some people seem to have got used to it the way it was and are a bit thrown by it when they get the fix, but in my opinion it's best when you get to choose how long you see the HVAC screen for and have to actively cancel it.
