I will never buy another MG ever again ?

Cars as an investment: lol.

I'm not sure anyone would think of a lovely old Lagonda like that as simply being a real investment. To keep it for 60 years through thick and thin, they must have had other 'loving' reasons, otherwise (as with most investments) there comes a time to sell. And generally, I think, people with such cars genuinely enjoy fiddling around with them continuously - again, otherwise they would simply get rid of them as an unwelcome burden. As a young man, in the early 1960s, I loved fiddling with my 1939 MG TA and later my '62 Midget which I tuned into a quick Lenham Midget conversion. But eventually they both went too wrong to be bothered further and I cut my losses each time ... So not a good example and my losses accounting for man-hours would have been ridiculous - but it was just fun at the time! But your overall point is entirely correct!

robertb nails it: cars aren't an 'asset' unless you are stupendously lucky and/or time your purchase with a fad-bubble just right.

My first car lost me £30 over 10 months but I did additionally have to put in some new alternator brushes and got a nose bleed taking off the steering wheel for some wiring repairs done by a friend (I'm not very mechanical).

After that I didn't really notice depreciation: never spent more than £4k on four year old cars and then kept them until they were about 12 years old.

And then I bought a new EV!

After 2 years I made £640 profit! Traded in for an MG4 SE with which I've been very happy and have decided not to look at values for another 5 or 6 years..

Given the acceleration of the MG4 compared to all my previous cars I don't see the need for an Xpower and won't be upgrading. But just out of interest, and as a skier, does anyone know how the two motors impact driving on snow?

Fair enough, your choice. ?
Don't get me wrong I do like my XPower, I just won't be purchasing with cash another new car, and especially not an MG, First car had an oil leak, tire pressure monitor MG iSmart issues, the dreaded 60 mph vibration problem, when I was in sports mode if I accelerated too hard it would switch me to snow mode, I changed to the XPower hoping they had fixed the issues, and its been fine fingers crossed up to now apart from tire pressure monitor and MG iSmart issues.

Well as Jeremy Clarkson would say

"It just makes everything better"

Snow mode does in fact give you permanent 4wd, but not in reverse, so you would have to be careful.

And you would definitely want, at a minimum All Season Tyres and preferably Snow focused winter tyres if going skiing.

This will, on normal tarmac at least, affect performance and range.

I do think there are probably better vehicles for the job.

Saying that, the XPWR could definitely do it, but it would be a compromise.

Don't worry, I used to live in the Alps, but a rear wheel drive MG4 SE is a bit different to a solid Fabia!
No doubt there are better vehicles for the snow but I was certainly never embarrassed by the Fabia, but the MG4 is my first rear wheel drive car.

I had winter tires on my Dacia Spring, MG4 will be equipped with winter tires as well, because I live in Kronstadt, so here when it snows, it really snows but wibter is no longer what used to be while I was a child, 40 years ago but still is good to stay safe.

I wonder how much it will cost me the first service after 2 years. I found out what casco insurance will cost me, about 711€, not bad it could have been worse.

A while ago in 1300, a basic riding horse could be had for £3-£10, that's £2,800-£9,300 at today's prices!

It was around 7d/day to feed and stable, 8d to reshoe and don't talk to me about the vet's bills, which could include a sacrifice or two!! This at a time when a labourer would earn 4d/day.

This transportation has long been an expensive business! ?

(My Bold)

You had the vibration problem with a non-Xpower?

The way Xpower buyers have been treated by MG is totally disgusting, instead of fixing issues with these cars MG have instead dropped the price by 30% in just over 9 months.

I bought an MG4 SE in 2022 and upgraded to the Xpower in 2023, MG will never get another penny out of me ever again.

Rant over ?
What are you talking about!? Xpower is the bargain of the century new! There is no price drop. There are fantastic ex demo model bargains about, where I got mine for £30K 7K miles.

Yep brand new 26 to 27k £
