MG4 Software Update Thread

I can confirm that R63 charging slider is fixed by loading the FICM config via SIPS
If a dealer has loaded R63 for you & charger slider isn't working then take the car back & ask them to finish the job, takes seconds to load so if they know what they're doing then 5min workshop time

Ok, give me a clue... what approximately what date did this new upgrade method get discovered/files posted.

Is the high level, but do at your own risk etc.

So I have the release R40 on a Long Range Luxury, I think it's same as Trophy?
What would I gain with an update?
And to second the @the happy bunny 's concern, I certainly don't want to brick my car. Can I just update the radio app -which is very bad- and keep the rest of my R40?
(Other minor problems I've noticed: the a/c good from heat to cold sometimes and wife complains the throttle and brake are sensitive and jumpy, for me they're ok)

I was thinking one component app might be a safer choice until I understand more.

Don't do that, I almost irreparably bricked mine by attempting something like that

Hi,

With R59, you’ll gain a route planner but lose the ability to slide the drop-down menu while using AA/CP.

With R63, in addition to the above, you’ll benefit from more accurate temperature settings. However, there’s a known issue with the charge limit slider, which can be resolved by configuring the car with the SIPS System.

@haloweenhamster, I think he’s talking about the USB Update, not about tweaking apks
The files are not available by the way

Truth is I don't know exactly what I'm talking about, but if I understand my options correctly, I would be taking an updated radio app of newer version package (from USB) and installing that on same OS - not tweaking apk

Unfortunately, the radio update files are not currently available, which is a significant limiting factor.

If you want to update your vehicle, the only way is to use the SIPS system. This requires an adapter (approximately €150) and a good understanding of how the system works. I’m currently exploring this in more detail.

It was the way they said update the radio but keep R40, I read that as update the apk package
The complete update R** update is ok
And the radio is better?

This new SIPS process is upward of which release? For Standard and Trophy EU?

Nice one, a link to the files everyone keep talking about is very helpful. I've two features that are annoying me, 1. AC inaccur and 2. Charging limit resetting all the time. I'll read through the posts since October and make notes.

The SIPS method is essentially the process dealerships use: it involves connecting the car to a PC via a dongle to perform updates. This is the “official” method for carrying out updates.

However, aside from the charge slider bug in R63, there are no real drawbacks to performing the update via USB alone.

Alternatively, you could upgrade to R59, which doesn’t have the slider issue. On a positive note, both R59 and R63 offer improved 3D sound quality.

Edit:

My charger limit slider works fine. Does that mean the garage configured the car with SIPS when upgrading?

Dropped the car off at the garage this morning, hoping to get the Cruise Control software updated so it increases in 1mph increments instead of 5mph as it does currently. I got a glimpse of the paperwork for the software updates they also had planned for it and these three were listed:

RC008 - MG4 locking functionality - Recall Campaign
SC069 - EH32 BMS & IMCU Software - Service Campaign
SCUK001 - Software Updates to be completed - Service Campaign

Any ideas what either RC008 or SC069 mean and what they're going to do / fix?

RC008 is very old - 2 years old. I got that one in January 2023. This should have been done long ago, or as part of PDI.

SC069 I can't remember seeing that one - is it a typo?

SCUK001 I think is the one I got that improved ACC, also giving the 1mph increments.

That's interesting re RC008 as my car was only purchased in May 2023... and then it's been in about 6 times for software updates since...!

SC069 is definitely what it says on the print out under 'Service Campaign Code' - I snapped a photo, I'll attach it on here.
