MG4 Software Update Thread

Just visited the garage, they can't fixed A11 and ask to book the car in next week. Tired with an A10 phone with same version of AA, it doesn't work, the AA doesn't even come up. A14 works well.
There's a new feature on R38, it shows distance in cm when reversing bar in red.
The distance came about in R33 - may even have been an earlier release. :)

My previous A10 phone (Moto G8 Plus) was originally A9 (with separate AA app) and upgraded to A10. Native A10+ phones have AA built into the OS rather than it being a separate app. However if you inadvertently uninstall AA from an A10+ phone, you can still recover AA by installing the AA app from the Play store. (Don't ask me how I know) 🙄🤦‍♂️

My car (Xpower) went in for a service earlier in the week. They've 'updated' due to some Bluetooth issues and the lane keeping. The unit was r46 but they've now installed r40. Are there any release notes for the various versions to say what the changes are? Is it worth asking them to reinstate to r46 or upgrade the version to the latest one? So far, i can't see much of a change although it keeps speed on ACC round corners and can now be adjusted in 1mph increments.
Whilst it may not have the same functionality of the later releases, I think many dealers are viewing R40 as the most stable version still. Mine came with same when delivered in Sept '24 but also had many module updates by the dealer alongside, meaning AC temps, ACC and LKA for example were always ok for me from day one.

I've since installed all latest software across the board using VNCI/SIPS and tbh apart from LKA shortcut (which despite thinking it would be a big deal, have never actually found a need for) there's very little difference in real terms...

After 6 months I've had enough of mine, constantly having to switch off lka, tja next to useless and car rolls back if using it on an incline, tyre pressure alarms everytime you drive it, sos failure every second day, acc hard breaks when you approach a vehicle 100s of yards in front. Headlights also completely missaligned. What software update should I be expecting/demand when it goes in? Cheers

ACC & LKA sorted by updates, just say you are having issues with those systems
Headlights I don't think there's an update for that 🙂
Rolling I'm not sure, never noticed the issue

I don't have any of those issues with my car.
Is yours a newer build with latest software?

Cheers hoping they fix the majority of the driving issues, there's also the Bluetooth and the infuriating delay getting it into drive but not so bothered by them for now!

So had the car 4 days and AEB slams brakes on kids drop off as there are other cars around.
I assume I joined the club of
Wait for screen boot up.
Turn off AEB
Turn on One Pedal Driving
Anyone know while OPD is off defaulted? I can understand the safety crap.. but OPD

Lane keeping not tried to cause a accident as yet.. Maybe I should just do that as well.
Last three cars I have had AEB and the beeped a few times, although never had them slam the brakes on for nothing before.
Lucky no one behind me.

Distance measurement was already available in the R24.

@davemc, have you tried setting Front Collision Alert to medium or low? The car remembers the setting. After a couple of episodes when I first had the car (April 2023) I reduced it to medium and have not had an incorrect braking since.

Thanks it was on Medium seems to default to that. I tried moving to Low although next time you are in the car it is Medium again as the car defaults settings.
If I need to switch to Low every time I just switch it off.
Or switch to Tow Mode which seems a lot of people are doing.

I understand the need for the feature although as said have had 3 other cars with the feature that only ever red flashed never slammed the brakes.
Even our street it narrow and parked cars two of our cars will ping as their is a bend with parked cars almost daily. Although of course you turn down the bend which it is to stupid to see.

Adding something for 5 star rating which does not work in the real life pretty bad.. I already read and seen people have the problem. This is pretty unsafe what it does and will now cause more crashes as it only works for 5 star testing not real world.

Hello, I am a new owner of an MG4 SE V1 EU. It is R16, and I wish to switch to R33, which poses no technical issue for me. My question concerns updating the TBox. Do you have a guide, and which version should I apply? Secondly, in order to revert to R16 before servicing, is it exactly the same as the upgraded version (does the MG not block downgrading)? Thank you

For both tbox and infotainment (r38 is the current version right now for you) you'll need a computer with a vdi dongle and sips access.

I'd strongly advise against doing just the usb update as you'll definitely encounter bugs

thk so i can make just the r38 upgrade without t-box upgrade and roll back to r16 before next service?
Again, I'd strongly encourage not to do so. You'll probably end up with bugs like one of the steering wheel star buttons not working.

Edit: I mean running R38 just via USB update without SIPS reconfiguration to install the MCU software.
