charger
A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging (i.e., continued charging after the battery has been fully charged) and can be recharged by connection to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on battery type. Simple chargers of this type must be manually disconnected at the end of the charge cycle. Other battery types use a timer to cut off when charging should be complete. Other battery types cannot withstand over-charging, becoming damaged (reduced capacity, reduced lifetime), over heating or even exploding. The charger may have temperature or voltage sensing circuits and a microprocessor controller to safely adjust the charging current and voltage, determine the state of charge, and cut off at the end of charge.
Chargers may elevate the output voltage proportionally with current to compensate for impedance in the wires.A trickle charger provides a relatively small amount of current, only enough to counteract self-discharge of a battery that is idle for a long time. Some battery types cannot tolerate trickle charging; attempts to do so may result in damage. Lithium-ion batteries cannot handle indefinite trickle charging.
Slow battery chargers may take several hours to complete a charge. High-rate chargers may restore most capacity much faster, but high rate chargers can be more than some battery types can tolerate. Such batteries require active monitoring of the battery to protect it from overcharging. Electric vehicles ideally need high-rate chargers. For public access, installation of such chargers and the distribution support for them is an issue in the proposed adoption of electric cars.
I apologise for asking a dippy question but in a bit of a bind!
I’m no newbie to EV’s having been driving them for over a decade (scarily!), and we know that granny chargers are a back up option unless you rarely use the car. We always use the dual wallbox at home with no dramas.
However...
New wave of reviews on YouTube from Thailand launch
On that particular video, Qi wireless charger is shown, different center screen GUI and split second row
Don't know if this has come up before, but I have a choice of 3 chargers at Tesco near me, 50kW, 22kW, and 7kW. Obviously the slower you choose the cheaper it is.
So yesterday I wasn't in a rush to I opted for the 22kW which is 49p. However, it only delivered at 7kW. Had I know this I would...
Hey Guys,
I have a tesla model 3 rwd and a MG ZS EV from 2021, i think its the first version.
When i charge the MG with the MG mobile charger i don't have any problem and the car charges perfectly.
The problem is that lenght of the cable is to small for my house and only charges at 10A.
I...
My first impressions of the MGZSEV.
I'm a bit disappointed with the dealership where I bought the car from, immediately the moment I signed for the car they lost interest in me and I feel quite let down with them. No serious issues just a lack of information and explanation regarding the...
My dishwasher packed up recently. Not an uncommon occurrence, as I have had 4 of them in the last 12 years.
This time the issue was with the plug/socket, or more specifically, the 1m ("high load" rated) extension cable the dishwasher was attached to as the housebuilder added the dishwasher...
I've been trying to find any sort of information on trouble shooting/fixes for the granny plug that you get with the MG4 but not had any luck.
Our plug has worked fine since we got it but one night it randomly stopped charging. The error code appears to be a overcurrent error, I tried...
FAQ 2 - What upgrades does my MG5 need to use a Tesla charger?
What is the current situation?
This is the MG buelltin posted by Miles Roberts describing the EVCC upgrade. I found it worth while having this with me to show dealers who may not be aware of it.
Note that the EVCC part numbers...
Hi
I have a 2022 MG ZS and got an EVEC01 charger installed as part of my package deal when I got the car. I have never been able to use the charger because it starts charging for around 20 seconds then pauses for perhaps a minute then charges again for 20 sec then pauses and it just does this...
I am planning to stop at a Tesla centre (Cardiff) and looked it up on Zapmap to see if there were any others nearby.
Anyway, clicked on the Tesla one on Zapmap to compare prices and it says "Un-tethered Connection, user cable required."
Now this is surely nonsense. There is no way you'd bring...
Hi All,
I just installed the Wall Charger 1phase 7kW model EVC-VS200-32C , got it from the MG dealer when I bought the MG 4ev, but it doesnot have detailed manual guide how to connect to WiFi / Bluetooth or the apps. only comes with the RFID card to START/STOP charging.
Been asking my...
Hi, I recently upgraded my WiFi and now my home charger has lost its connection to my charger app. Is it possible to charge the car without WiFi using my home charger
Hello I have an MG4 for only a couple of days and come to use the granny charger for the first time at home. No extension cables just straight from plug socket out the window. It says “connected- not charging” and I cannot get it to charge. Does anyone have any tips ?!
Does anyone else have an EO charger which stopped working in February this year?
I am trying to find out if I am the only one who has a problem. Currently I am in dispute with EO, EDF, who have offered respectively 23% ish off a new charge point or £50.00!
I cannot believe that a list price...
Elsewhere on this site, I have been moaning about an EO charger that seems to be duff.
Last night, the Charger switched on as per schedule, but did not charge. This morning, the 12 volt was flat enough not to switch on the car. I imagine that the charger switched on the 12V circuits, which then...
Hi
I’m about to take delivery of a MG ZS EV. Is there a conventional cigarette charger fitted which will accept my old sat nav.
The adaptors from USB to conventional cigarette lighter doesn’t seem to be much good according to the reviews on Amazon for instance.
If I need to consider that...
Had my charger installed at an eye watering price it should have had a ct clamp and load limiting according to paper work (wasn’t overly bothered as it’s done dead of night only - not hitting the limits). Been nearly a year since the unloop request. Next door works for the DNO but not on...
Gosh, it's a bit of a saga...
My EO Mini Pro 2 charger seems to have bitten the dust.!
I have used it as a dumb charger for 3 years and 3 months. Recently, I have tried to programme it so that I can have timed charges with Octopus Go.
It took some setting up, but at last it logged on, and I...
Well not sure if I've actually done a conditioning charge or not?
Came back from a holiday trip with 13% charge remaining, put it on the granny charger for 24hrs to 100%
i can see that Tesla is making its chargers accessible, & i can get their App & register my payment card, but how do i find out when planning my route if a particular Tesla charger will let my MG5 use that charger? & without setting up a monthly account which i do not need?
