I’ve been ringing round for quotes for a 5th service on my 2020 ZS EV and have differing advise from each dealer. According to the MG website the 5th year service is basic and includes nothing extra. Some dealers have told me the coolant needs changing, others have said the transmission oil needs changing, and others have said both need changing. None of them agree with the service schedule published by MG. Prices range from £220 up to £679!

Has anyone here had a 5th year service on a Gen 1 ZS? If so what was done and how much did it cost?

I have my (Jan 2020) car booked in for 27 January at my local MG agent Waylands. I have always found them reasonably priced for service, but pretty hopeless for sales, with very poor salespeople.
I will try to remember to post details of the service after the event.

Some of the dealers are just guessing then and clearly not adhering to the official MG Service / Check Off Sheet that they can print off from their own system !.
This may account for the ambiguous differential in prices, without checking correctly.
There should be NO grey area really, then technician will follow the criteria laid down on the official sheet.
The price you are being charged, should be reflective of the work content and priced accordingly.
Information taken from this official MG sheet, states that the HV battery coolant should be replaced at 5 years OR 75,000 miles which ever arrives first.
I will include a copy of this check off sheet that I alway request completing at the time of service.
I then use the sheet to verify if the work has been carried out to the process.
If it’s ticked, it’s done !.
If it’s ticked and not completed, then why not.
A quick read through the sheet yourself, will give you a good indication of what does and does not need doing at every service interval.
Then you have good reason to challenge the information you are being offered, if you believe it to be incorrect.
The first number in either f the columns refers to the age / service interval due ( 5 in this case ) and the following number ( 75,000 in this case ) is clearly the milage of course, hence 5/75,000
Our car is the Gen2 model, but I pretty sure that it is a generic sheet for both ZS EV models TBH.
Hope this clears up any questions you had 👍.

Thank you for the info. The Gen 1 and Gen 2 service schedules are different according to MG’s website which might be where the dealer misinformation comes from. There is also an alternative low mileage schedule for the Gen 2 but it was scrapped for the Gen 1.

Agreed - But the dealer should clearly be able to identify the correct model that they are pricing at the time of the enquiry, by simply using your registration number ?.
The sheet used for our 2 year service is headed ZS EV 2021 which adds even more to the confusion, we have one of the early facelift Gen2 models that was registered on the 14th of March 2022.
Was there any Gen2 facelift UK models on our roads in 2021 then ?.
This may suggest the use of an incorrect sheet then 🤷🏻.
You would need both sheets to make a correct back to back comparison.
Both the 1st and 2nd service we received, was classed as “low user” case services and was conducted by two different dealerships, in two completely different locations ( due to Covid travel restrictions in Wales ).
The car is due its 3rd service in March this year ( 23 ) and this will be interesting conversation I guess !.
But I will be using the official MG sheet as a yard stick, if I feel uncomfortable at what I am being quoted 🤔.

You are right, Lovemyev - I checked on my service report from last year and there it was - the whole 2 pages of form, duly filled out.!
It seems the battery coolant should be changed this year - but of course there is no way of actually checking that it has been done. However, I suppose it is only like changing the coolant in an ICE car, so it should not be beyond their capabilities!

I just had it done in Epsom Wilson, they changed me £360. I have done only 25k mileage, it appears too expensive when they done nothing except checking it and washing the car. Anyone else had 5 th service?. AK

Yes, I had ours done in January, done by Waylands. It was about £450, and included changing the coolant but the transmission oil should be changed at the 4th service (and was done). All laid out in the service schedule.(see above).
Also today we had the charging port cover replaced which is a recall - we have not had any problem with the old one.

Mine was done at Holden MG in Norwich today. Quoted £278 on phone. They phoned yesterday to say the price would now be £300 but I objected so they promised the original quote.

Picked the car up and they said all was good and my battery state of health was 99% - it was 86.4% last year so they justified it as “normal spontaneous recovery of battery condition!!!!!” I went to the car, plugged my dongle in and read it as 86%. I went back and asked them to recheck it which they initially refused, saying I was just another customer, the second that day, with an eBay dongle trying to catch them out. They then agreed to check it again and read it at 86% which they then said was normal for 5 years. I asked them if they had done the rest of the service correctly which they said they had and had even put the comfort 2 update on for a reduced cost of £45. I went back to the car to check and they hadn’t done the Comfort 2 update, so I went back in and the technician said that MG do not allow any software updates on cars over 4 years old and they refunded the £45.

Pretty much a shambles of a service and I cannot see how the cost is in any way justified. The only consumable was £31 worth of coolant.

Utter Shambles TBH.
How do you first report a 99% SOH on the traction battery, then when challenged, it suddenly becomes 86%.
It sounds like they just guessed or reported a figure they thought you would be pleased with.
Having the audacity to blame your own SOH results, on a “cheap” OBD reader from E.bay.
Then having to back pedal on there first reported figure and then actual reporting similar results on the MG diagnostic computer.
Not a great experience at all and a dealer to avoid I think !.
