Anyone wash their car today? ?

Agree, it works well in urban areas although that is now being watered down with shops and supermarkets open on Sunday mornings when previously shut. Here its more of an unwritten rule that Sundays are a quiet day , (countryside) unless you are a farmer who needs to tend the fields , hunters with baying hounds and pop guns , chainsaws cutting down trees for firewood , 2 stroke strimmers and lawnmowers tending large gardens and 4 wheel drive ATVs churning up the tracks. Then there is "the" silent period when its large lunches from 12-4 then repeat. In the UK Sundays are a Bikers day , here that's a Saturday . Mondays tend to be the quietest day , many shops closed not much traffic after the morning rush and everyone's too knackered after Sundays hard work.

Many did put it to a vote in some continental European countries and guess what? - the regulations were approved. It's quite strictly enforced by the authorities AND the local residents who will report those that flout the regulations. Works very well and in urban areas gives the majority one relatively quiet day per week.
Again you are not talking about the UK, guess what they will never win a vote on that here.

Enforced by the authorities, which ones??

Who are the local residents going to report things too? The police? They have no chance they are busy backfilling for all the other failing services in the UK, social work, NHS mental health then they deal with crime last and not some crap noise nuisance stuff.

What else are we going to ban?

Log burners country wide, we already have smoke control zones in urban areas and hee haw is done with that.

Meat because all the cows we keep for it are farting and destroying the environment, or are we going to feed them drugs to stop them farting and not give a toss about about the potential long term impacts of yet another chemical in the food chain.

We could go on and on, anyway this started about washing cars and has went way off topic. Just to recap I'm more than happy hand washing my car when I fancy doing it along with cutting my grass, doing some DIY and generally maintaining my property.

Correct, I'm not talking about the UK in relation to where the regulations are in place and largely enforced, there will of course be exceptions but these are relatively small. When I do refer to the UK is in context to how it would improve the quality of life for the majority. People don't like change but if we never change we never progress.

I get what your saying but again you never answered any of the questions, I fail to see how an electric mower not being used improves someone's quality of life.

You live in Cyprus are you allowed to wash your own car, do DIY cut your own grass? Not that I saw much grass when I was there on holiday.
Has the Cypriot government imposed those regs on the population there?

Yes, in Cyprus you can pretty do as you please, so we get building works on Sundays, evenings etc. Everyone hates it when it happens. However, slowly even here things are changing with regards the environment and that's a very good start. When I lived in Germany none of that hapoened and was far better for mental health and quality of life. Noise pollution is one of the biggest banes in urban areas in any country. It causes mental stress closely followed by physical heath issues, relationship issues, family issues etc.

Plenty of grass, right now thru April, plenty of natural forest in Cyprus and dested roads in the countryside. Most who visit just stay in coastal areas and never see the interior.

Shall we respectfully agree to disagree ?

Car washing this weekend anyone?
Bit windy for me but looks settled over xmas so will certainly be having a dabble😎

👍
Definitely car washing as the cars are manky, may even cut back some large bushes with my battery hedge strimmer. Neighbour can't really complain as his fecking chickens are always noisy in the morning.

That's an idea ban domestic chicken ownership!!

Walking back into a light hearted thread to….

Anyway, I WASHED MY CAR TODAY 🤪
Yes, just before it rained. It was a quick snow foam job to make it less shameful. It didn’t need to be “good” just….

Not needing a picture as you know what it looks like, just imagine it dirty, now not dirty 😊

My local council has no washing car rules. It’s more obsessed with keeping our streets clean so tourists won’t get scared away. So much so that they send a contractor round 7 days a week with a blower to clear the park benches and pavements. With his blower, without any care whatsoever, (coz he’s rushing) he manages to cover every car within 10m with sand, salt and debris. So everyone rushes home and washes their cars. The water from said wash drains into the ocean from where it came. Within half an hour, walkers, runners, dog walkers, surfers and the wind, put the sand straight back where it started. Rinse and repeat.
