I've had my MG4 for a year now, and the biggest bugbear is Apple CarPlay, I still cannot get this to work without continued connection fails. I've tried the CarLink 5 wireless adaptor, which is what I initially thought the connection issue was. But it wasn’t. I've had the same issue with using Apple certified cable.

It's so annoying.

Last night, we must have plugged in and plugged out the cable x50 times, sometimes it wouldn’t pair at all, other times it would pair for a second or two, other times it would pair for 10-20 seconds and start playing music then drop out. ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGG

The car is booked in for 1st service next week, will it include a software update….. and will this fix the CarPlay glitch?

Anyone else have these ongoing issues?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem with Apple car play in my previous car. Turned out to be fluff in the phone socket. As I only wireless charge the phone, I didn’t realise it was full of pocket lint. Scooped it out with a cocktail stick and then it was fine.

I've had issues in the past with Apple CarPlay not connecting and still get a very occasional failure.

I'm not sure which helped most (or if at all) but I now do the following with a 95% success rate first time and I'm still on R40 :-

1. I bought this short lead that someone else recommended and use it all the time now -

2. I don't connect the phone end until (i) the car is fully in the ready state and I have adjusted LKA, OPD etc. and (ii) the phone is unlocked.

As the phone is charging through the lead anyway, I leave it in the console area due to short length.

Does it ever drop connection? I find my carlinkit tbix drops WiFi connection in certain areas like top of my street. I put it down to WiFi interference.

I think you quoted the wrong post .... I plug my Iphone straight into the cars USB A socket with the lead I linked to in my post above. No Wi-Fi needed and no dropouts once connected. Only very occasional problems connectiing at the beginning, but unplugging and re-inserting the lead has always worked for me on these rare occasions.

The only bug I get is when indicating at lower speeds my 360 camera screen appears and sometimes when returning back to Apple Carplay I get a black screen. This is always cured by pressing the home button and going back into Apple Carplay from there.

I know I could turn the 360 camera off when indicating but I find it useful for parking - just indicate and up come the cameras.

Before I used the wireless CarLinkit, I had constant trouble with Apple Carplay until I started using the shortest genuine Apple USB cable (50 cm). I probably went through eight or more other cables and none worked reliably, or at all.

With CarLinkit, it works reliably but does need some very specific settings made for this to happen. Wireless is just so much more convenient.

I use a wired cable for my Carplay but it seems the car does not approve of official Apple cables so I bought a cheap one from Amazon which has worked perfectly since.

I'd like to get a wireless adaptor but have heard they're a bit of a nightmare to get working consistently and reliably.

I've found the Quadlock Carplay Dongle to be very reliable and consistent. I have it taped under the little shelf, apart from the bit of cable you can't see it. I did have to go into the settings but as seen on the Quadlock website it isn't that hard to do. Set the start up delay to at least 20 seconds and you should be all good.

Below are the instructions to get into the settings, don't worry about the version stuff, mine came with a newer version from the seller, but that ip address takes you to the right settings menu. Also, I had it powered through the car and it worked fine, but I suppose it is a risk if the car somehow turns it off mid update.

I had the same issue. Purchased this from Alixpress and haven’t had a problem since.! Also, set up for a 40 sec delay to allow everything on the car to do its thing. Worth every penny and the time to set it up.

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! £26.86 | Wireless Carplay Adapter Android Auto Wireless Smart Dongle 2in1 For Volvo Benz Audi Kia Hyundai VW Mazda Cadillac MG Peugeot
