As this will be my first EV car and at some stage I’ll have to give it a zip on a public charger, I was thinking would it be a good idea to leave a note on the dashboard with something along the lines of…if this car is fully charged, remove the charger and charger your car….I think there is a button that you can press, an emergency stop button? ..and if I parked the car off to the side of the charger someone maybe able to park next to mine so they could plug in?…the other thing is, I can really see me being anywhere long enough to charge to full or 80%…but think I’d be a bit pissed off if I turned up at a charger and there’s a car sitting there that’s full…just interested on your thoughts…

Unless it is an untethered charger, there is no way they can disconnect you physically (the emergency stop will stop charging but not unlock the charging gun). There is an app that one can sign up to which allows another driver to send you a message to unplug or whatever. It is a good idea but you need to be signed up to it. The name escapes me.

If you were at a rapid then i wouldn't go much over 80% and you would know how long that would take from your start percentage. If you are on fast unit again you would be able to guess how long it would take to get to your desired charge and not worry about it.

Welcome to the EV world. Hope you enjoy it.

It's not good etiquette to leave your car on a charger for longer than you really need to. If more of us subscribed to the Need to Charge App (NeedToCharge | The friendly way to share an EV charger) messages can be sent easily from one driver to another who may "need to charge". I wouldn't recommend encouraging the use of the emergency stop button on chargers except for real emergencies.

Another driver cannot end your charge session, only the card/method you used to start the charge can end the charge and release the connector. Clearly you would not want another driver to be able to disconnect you and then charge their vehicle on your account.
