First attempt at charging since taking delivery. The battery stopped charging at 95%. I tried to kick off charging again but it kept saying charging failed. Is that normal?

Thanks

This is normal on the LR MG5 on a RAPID charger. It is to help protect the battery.

I have not tried to go above 80% SOC with the new ZS EV on a Rapid Charger.

The MG5 I tried was not mine (it was a demonstrator), so it did not bother me that I was on the charger trying to get to 100%. I was at the services on the M6 at Rugby where there many chargers. As such I was not holding up anyone waiting.

As the ZS EV is mine, I would never charge it to more than 80% on a Rapid Charger. I try not to use them at all unless absolutely necessary. The near 300 miles range of the new ZS EV helps :)

Why don’t I charge to more than 80% on a Rapid Charger?

1: prolong battery life
2: Rate of charge drops dramatically after 80% and extends charging time.

I suspect that MG have put in the same protection for the new MG ZS EV.

This is from the manual. See the last note.

What model do you have and was the unit the 7 KWh type ?.
Was the charging limit set to complete at 95% by any chance ?.

Hi, I drive the ZS Trophy Connect Long Range. Attached a photo of the charging point. I think it is a rapid charger.

Did you have to remove both rubber bungs to use this unit?
If so then it was a CCS DC rapid that you plugged in.
If it was just the top rubber bung then it was a type2 AC connector
