My advice to all my family is Buy MG4/5 or go for Tesla. Nothing in the middle makes sense. MG has best value for money (forget the issues they are trivial....we just like to complain between ourselves ). Tesla has the best overall package. If you have the money get Tesla model Y. Otherwise MG till you save.

Completely agree with the above. MG4 if on a budget; Tesla if you can possibly reach to it. Nothing else in the UK market makes sense when these two cars exist (and I drive a first gen Kia e-Niro - second gen is far too expensive). Forums are for owners to discuss issues and niggles, so you'll always get a distorted sense of proportion when reading this kind of forum. We had one of the first ZS EVs in the UK, 3 years ago, and there were many and serious software issues! MG issued a couple of major software updates over the following few months, which fixed most of them, so I'm fairly confident they'll do the same with the MG4 (they really want this car to succeed in western markets). Price rise in Jan, so order now (even if you cancel later). My advice re. dealers is find a local one, as you'll be going back and fore (we visited ours 4 or 5 times prior to and during delivery) so make sure it's close. Otherwise, enjoy your car, and come here often to air your inevitable niggles! ;-)

Nonsense (ridiculous statement), going by that myself and all the other Renault, Kia, Hyundai, Cupra, VW owners have all wasted their money.

My car cost/ will cost roughly £4k more than the trophy I cancelled, £3k after January's price rise. It's £11.5k cheaper than a standard range Model 3.

It's build quality is better, the cabin is far superior, the efficiency is superior (and that has been independently proven) the infotainment is Google, end of arguement.
And from a practical use/user friendly point of view has far more practical features than the 4.

I've said it time and again the 4 has the potential to be a great car, the price point is amazing value for money, I am sure the issues will get sorted soon But at what point do the current inconveniences start adding up against value for money?.
To just write off every other electric car on the market between MG and Tesla is blinkered beyond belief.

I’ve had Teslas and overall enjoyed them. Until you’ve owned and experienced one it’s hard to really provide any informed comments. My experiences are mixed. In summary, technically great but build quality poor for the price point.
As far as the market now, well there are so many good EV‘s out there (Tesla included).
To look at MG and Tesla and nothing else is just silly.

I am sorry but something seems off to me. The cheapest Megane e-tech listed is 6k more expensive the trophy. It is also lacking basic features such as ACC (not to mention things such as 360 cameras and, in Europe, the heat pump). Yes, the build quality is better (although the cabin is particularly louder, as most reviewers point out) and the infotainment is far superior for sure. But feature wise, you are still comparing two cars with a big difference and pay more for much less tech, overall.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a great car and might have been a no brainer for 4k more, if there was a feature parity. But taking into account how many things are missing in the basic version of the Megane, it makes it hard to compare it fairly.

What part actually seems off to you?

The cheapest Megane (Equilibre) is 5.5k more (4.5 as of next week)
I have the techno, which is technically 8k more going on list price. 7k as of next week.
I got 1k dealer contribution brings it down to 6, I got 1 k more PX for my car, than MG offered now 5k different, and as I said if I'd went down Renault's PCP route I would have saved another 1k interest over the 3 years. So £4k different.

For that £4k

The interior of the 4 is incredibly dark, the interior of the Mégane is a different level entirely, ambient lighting you can change to suit.

you say the Mégane is louder, I've driven both and it has less road noise than the mg4. As confirmed by What Cars review.

And the only thing the trophy has that my car doesn't is 360 cameras.

The techno only has front and rear sensors and a rear camera. It has acc and all the other safety features the trophy has, they all work well also, never tried to kill me yet!

It has paddles for regen making it far more practical to use, old school buttons to adjust the fan, rear demister, adjust heating, for both passenger and driver, heated seats.
It has an Arkamys 6 speaker sound system.
Again an improvement.

You mention a heat pump neither have that, the Mégane has however been rated the 5th most efficient EV in the UK by EV database, the most efficient MG4 came in at 26th. The SR in the early 30's and the trophy lower still.

So for basically £4k off a difference I'll happily pay that for all those improvements, again what part of what I said earlier seems off to you?

Well, I meant that the price of the car seems off, because the listed prices are completely different from what you'll pay. Even the 7-8k price difference that you give, is basically between the top spec of one car with the mid-spec of another.

In any case, in your case it seems like a great choice. I totally agree, if all the important equipment is there plus the Renault quality and the Google ecosystem, then this is a very good deal and I might have taken it myself. However, the whole notion of "everything else is overpriced" is based on comparing similar trims on their listed prices, not the top spec trim of MG4 with occasional individual offers for other cars.

One things about the noice: it's always weird how reviewers go about it. It seems like one or two reviews went along the lines of Renault's claims, but the majority of them (including Bjorn, which otherwise praised the car a lot) mention that it's quite noisy and seems like it misses some soundproofing.

When I was looking, all I could see was a Arkamys 4 speaker setup mentioned or hk top of the range.

Anyway I tend to agree with lierostelios. It was too expensive and missing stuff that I was looking for. Together with that non portrait screen that was in all the early reviews....put me off.

Im happy to pay a few grand extra for pretty much exactly the same kit (-360) but an upgrade in pretty much every other area.

I agree the screen dropping size was a bit disappointing but it's only an inch smaller than the 4 and the drivers screen is over 12 inches and the maps from the sat nav go on there, so make no difference to the smaller infotainment screen Like I say each to their own.

I absolutely hate the audio in the non-trophy MG4. Uncontrolled low end and terrible mids that make the voceline bland. It's the only reason I choose the Trophy version. It's way better.

Although others have questioned the remarks regarding the Tesla/MG4(5) options, but you should be allowed your opinion.
One comment which I'll address, though, is the apparent 'trivial' issues. Granted it's relative, but a person who has just parted with a lump of cash which would make a first time home buyer's deposit proud, or entered a high APR, high interest, finance 'deal', they (or anyone in between) are totally justified in their disappointment. Whether being locked in a car in dangerous situations; losing power; having a car leak oil all over their driveway hours after buying a car- despite pleading with a dealer to fit the remedy beforehand...plus 'all the other' issues may be 'trivial' to some, but maybe not to others. Add to this the inconvenience of their new car, which is often their daily commuter, being back at a dealership, and the (sometimes) 'fight' involved in obtaining a courtesy car etc etc. It is also a question of how 'trivial' they are when months after release, there are still owners experiencing the same problems. And people who have found the issues to 'trivial' that it resulted in them rejecting their car, or cancelling their order.

Tbf, the camera quality in the MG4 isn't something to brag about ? Although the 360 aspect of it is a useful feature to miss. Also, I really doubt that the screen of the Megane is smaller than the one on the MG4. Inches are only half the story and, in reality, a 9" of about 4:3 ratio, like the one on the Megane, is actually having a bigger area than the elongated ultrawide screen on the MG (see here for a comparison). I actually think that the 9" would be much more ergonomic, due to its proportions.

My reasoning was that the car offered enough kit at a acceptable price. Indeed, it's got issues and it's far from perfect. But the things that matter to us are there and they're ok.

I really liked the way the MG4 drives, the driving position, the extra space, the rwd layout and the looks of the car. I was positively impressed by it's charging speed and the build quality.

On the other hand the assistance systems were bad, but many issues with them can be solved via software updates which seem to be deployed slowly but surely.
Even the hardware issues seem to be addressed and fixes are underway. I hope that until my car is built and delivered there are even more improvements in this regard.

Even with all the issues we saw at the test drive we felt that it was the car to get and we are quite excited for it to arrive and replace our Zoe.

That seems like a very long lead time in comparison to what dealers in the UK are telling customers, which is around 16~18 weeks. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your car when it comes.

A quick update from me. Since placing my deposit last December I’ve had to do all the chasing for updates. Right from the start when the deposit was taken twice in error the dealer has not been great.
I know that this is not necessarily just MG but symptomatic of the general standards in some dealerships.
I’m now on the cusp of cancelling my MG4 order.
There’s no sign of the car or indeeed any update on build etc etc. I need something, as I’m not just hanging on in the hope that I might get a car anytime. The other factor is of course after sales quality of service. If at sales they can’t get it right then I’m concerned how bad it could get once the car is delivered.
I’m sleeping on it but I’m afraid another cancellation is on the cards.
Shame because the MG4 has huge potential.
