MG4 Software Update Thread

Hi everyone,

I conducted an interesting experiment today and wanted to share some findings.

I installed SWI186-29958-1100R14, a release originally designed for Thailand.

As expected, this version is highly specific and isn’t practical for daily use. Many (quirks and) features are non-functional because I couldn’t connect to a local iSmart account. I also didn’t risk installing the relevant MCU update, which may explain some of the other non-functional features.

What really surprised me was how smooth the interface felt, completely lag-free, with fluid animations and an overall polished experience. The interface, as shown in the picture, is similar yet different, with a much more refined design. I think the font looks better as well!

This localised version does come with limitations:
  • No DAB support.
  • Available languages are limited to Thai and English.

Some features didn’t work, perhaps because I didn’t want to upgrade the MCU (or due to other factors):

  • Rear sensors beep as they should but don’t display anything.
  • Day/night mode is non-functional.

Due to activation issues:
  • Maps are included but they won’t start.
  • Weather doesn’t work.
  • All local bundled stuff don’t work either

This version was interesting to test, but it’s clearly not suitable for everyday use in other places than Thailand. That’s just a glimpse of what our system could be.

Would you want to try r18 also?

In thailand they activate wireless android auto, carplay and fix some bugs also. I can share the full list of upgrade.

This is different approach but it can be handy if there is not much bug also :)

Here is the full list:

The MG4 that has been updated OTA in Thailand version R18 has been improved as follows:

Improved the Driver Fatigue Detection function to help reduce the risk of accidents.

Improved the Forward Collision Warning system while reversing to increase safety while reversing.

Improved the Adaptive Cruise Control system to work more accurately.

Improved the Automatic Headlights function for more convenient driving.

Improved the Follow Me Home Lights function to provide light when leaving the car in the dark.

Added Wireless Apple CarPlay for more convenient connectivity.

Improved the Navigation System to work more accurately.

Improving processing speed: Making systems respond faster, such as navigation, entertainment, or control systems.

Reducing resource usage: Making systems run smoother and potentially extending the battery life of electric vehicles.

Minor bug fixes: Making systems more stable and reducing freezing or malfunctions.

Correction: R18 not leaked yet. Ah :(

I also tested R173 and discovered that it offers the same sleeker, improved responsiveness, albeit with the classic interface. However, it has the same issue with the TBox as the Thai release.

My understanding is that these versions are designed for MY2024 cars!

Hello everyone and thank you for everything.
following update of my car via sips by myself I have the ismart connection which works but when I am remote and the car has been off for 15/20 minutes no longer possible remotely... whenever I drive the application works well... do you have an idea?

I have already deleted and restored min vehicle. it does the same

THANKS

Which modules/ECUs did you update, exactly?

It’s not straightforward. My understanding is that you need a specific FAKRA-to-USB adapter to connect. These adapters are available on AliExpress at a low cost.

you can check out this post:
Added to the drive

Checked several vins and they have either come up with 1 or 3 files, all 4 are in the drive
View attachment 32803

You can open the files with a zip program like 7zip winrar etc
Never loaded one but would expect that you just extract it to the root of the drive
Here's what MG say

has no one here ever done it?
Then where to connect this adapter?
