Whether they are unnecessarily complex or not (which is a fair point, you may well be right), this is how it is and I don't think it will change.

In general again I agree with your assessment ,but we can still bring it up as an issue to let the manufactures know we are on to them. The EU have brought in regs to insure all products sold in the EU are repairable and not just thrown away. It does not state if they should be easily repairable or by whom , but we live in hope.
I,ll still stick with my theory that many of the design decisions made in the cars we buy are to give future work to franchised dealers workshops . You can see their point , but it limits, our the customers choices , so much for competition.

I bought my ZE EV outright last year - and originally planned to keep it 10+ years as most of my previous cars.

With the fast pace of technology and potential issues beyond the warranty - I now think I wouldn't keep mine beyond 6 years - leaving 1 year warranty left for the next owner to take it on with some reassurance.

Out of warranty, I think these cars will likely depreciate more rapidly due to the uncertainty.

Even if the car falls apart after 10 years due to some expensive electronic component, you're still sitting on a lot of battery power - for example: enough to run a home for a few days - so there will always be some value in these cars to somebody.

Mind you - I only bought it new due to inflated 2nd hand market and the lack of affordable EV choices - in 5 years time that will be very different. By then I will probably buy a 2-3 year old EV that doesn't even exist today.

To simply for you:

MG warranty states they will REPAIR or replace the battery. This answers your expectations that a new battery is installed if the battery has an issue.

It isnt the stated case in the WARRANTY statement

Inside of warranty that may well be a repair or refurb. But outside of warranty that will be a straight replacement.

Another member posted that there are a handful of 3rd parties completing repairs. But they are currently few. Hopefully this expands as demand increases.

There are already EV specialists that can easily cope with run of the mill repairs, and even diagnose and fix faults dealers struggle with ( Cleevely to name one ).
Which already dispels your theory that manufacturers are making sure only their dealers can work on their cars.
And the amount of companies able to do this will only grow.

What i can say though is in the google research i did a few months back i cant find any examples of any companies providing new battery installs- perhaps others will have better success.

There were people selling exchange second hand packs.

But trying to find evidence of new battery prices drew a blank

Do you mean aftermarket batteries?
Or people installing new OE batteries?
One is non existent right now, the other is easy (any dealer for one)
Prices for new batteries for the MG maybe aren’t in the public domain yet though, but it’s a part like any other and will have a price if asked.

If the post becomes rambling its because people do not answer a specific question but go off on one and give unrelated responses which the require different explanations . learning to read the question and understanding its nuances would be a good start.
Its not just this thread but quite a lot like it, and not just you , in case you are getting a little paranoid. There are forums about everything under the sun, and in general all have the same problems and issues , makes you glad to be human.
I,m happy for any one to disagree with me and will concede a point when met with overall evidence of an alternative view , a hypothetical question by definition means that the ensuing conversation will be shades of grey , not black and white, and hopefully aims to give people a different slant on life and maybe their responses will change mine.
Trying to stop a conversation dead because it may upset your sensibilities sort of implies you are right and thats the end of it.
