Does the XPower have any peers?

Agreed. But, their network does more or less eliminate the top concern of all EV drivers, range anxiety.
That's the top concern of all ICE drivers considering EVs. EV owners generally have realised they need far less range than they originally thought. (Not everyone, obviously, but the majority of those I come across).

Agreed, but the prices are the same, and car reviewers often compare the value of a new car versus one that is less than 12-month old - which I what I have done.
I'd always compare two year old cars, so the MG4 would be cheaper. Given cars typically lose 20-25% in the first year, it is a big difference.
Many would find the Tesla a considerably more desirable piece of kit especially in most areas but especially when it comes to access to its unmatched, anxiety-eliminating Tesla fast charging network.
We looked at Teslas and preferred the MG interior - yes there's some higher quality materials in the Tesla but we found the lack of a hatch, indicators, wipers, no central driver's screen, no Apple CarPlay, general almost complete lack of buttons and other idiosyncrasies really put us off.

Also the looks are no contest, the Tesla looks weirdly egg shaped. Yes it is more aerodynamic and efficient but that matter naught when the MG4's range is plenty.

Also, we charge our MG4 on Tesla's supercharger network regularly - and all of them will have to be open to all by 2025.
The cars are both apples. Don't get me wrong, I am not particularly a Tesla fan, but Musk does listen to his user base and the brand new Tesla Model 3 has been completely revamped in line with user feedback. My brother takes delivery of one very soon and I am looking forward to seeing how is measures up.
I hope your brother enjoys the car. A Tesla is a fine choice but it is also an acquired taste and now there is choice, Tesla are discovering that not everyone likes their choices.

Agree I have gone from my first EV a 300 mile plus range on the EV6 to whatever the X Power does. On a daily I no longer need to worry, only for long distances, then will just plan ahead.

A 1-yr old Tesla Model 3 Performance .......?
I'll see your 12 month old Tesla M3 and raise you a 6 month old MG4 XP.

How do those figures stack up, ?

Truth be told the M3 could be LOADS cheaper than it actually is, if they stop selling you are likely to see just how much cheaper they can get.

Unfortunatley the MG is sold through traditional franchised dealerships so they take a big whack at every car.

Apart from the two mentioned above (Volvo and Brabus) there doesn’t seem to be any similar sized high performance orientated EV hatchbacks on the immediate horizon as far as I can see. The Tesla Model 2 is still some way off and the BYD offerings in the UK don’t seem comparable (slower or bigger). I think VW / Cupra / Mercedes have also missed a trick here and MG taken a good step with the Xpower.

And when/if another manufacturer does fetch a similar size/performance to the X Power, it almost certainly wouldn't be anywhere near as good value. You'll probably only buy the other makes out of Badge snobbery. ?

l’m liking the story about this new EXE181 in the MG magazine but I’ll need to find out if there’s to be an estate version for a wee bit more practicality.

The XPower is unbeatable value. The Hyundai N products are great but not price competitive, so it is a different market.

The Ioniq 5 N starts at £65,000. Basically 2 XPowers in £££ terms.
A basic Ioniq 5 Ultimate with the bigger battery is around £51,000 new, a 2021 model with just under 7,000 miles is on AutoTrader for £29,000.

£22,000 depreciation is around 43%. If that happens to the N then you are looking at a 3 year old Ioniq 5 N coming in around £37,000, close to the price of a new XPower, which might make it interesting to consider

Yes you could always buy something 3 years old as an alternative to a new car.

But they aren't fair comparisons then - what will the XPower cost 3 years old and what will MG be offering in 3 year's time?
