MG4 Should I get one? What’s the consensus from owners and those waiting?

So, the general consensus is to order the new MG4 trophy as despite the issues it’s a very good car.
Thank you so much for all the input and honest views. ?
I suppose my final query would be - order now (I do believe there is a £1000 increase in Jan) or wait until the new year.
My thinking is that even with a price increase there may be better deals in January.
At present the discounts offered are very low nominal amounts. I find it hard to spend £32k+ and not get a better deal - perhaps I’m expecting too much?
What do you think?
My understanding is that the price increase has already been applied. Just looked at my local dealer and it is showing the SE as £26,995, was £25,000 earlier.

Goodness me.
Having read this, I am starting to have second thoughts about acquiring an MG4.
My current car is a Ford Fiesta Vignale and I both love the car and love driving it. And although it has been largely trouble free, it is approaching 5 years old. It is currently worth over £11,000 and I am thinking it best to sell it and use the money to fund the leasing.
The MG4 is not likely to be available for at least 3 months and so I would hope that all of these issues would be sorted out??
Many owners in this thread comment on the positives:
Positive Vibes for the MG4

As may well have already been posted, it has its positive points, including, price, range, charging speed, the sporty drive. If you get a trouble free example then I am 100% confident you will be a very happy owner. It is however, important that you go into any purchase with your eyes open, and understand the feedback of the current owners and balance it out with the biases we all are wired with (whether we know it, and admit it or not).

It does look like the early adopters once again bear the brunt of the disruption and issues, who knows when your vehicle will turn up or when it will be built, but one can only hope MG learn and adapt as they go. Same goes for their Dealerships.

That is pretty much my view as well.

I'm an EV virgin, and have just bought an MG4 - its perfect for our needs - I got into EV's as it was at requiremnt at work, when hiring cars - no major issues (for those making the decisions sat in their office), but useless for what I needed to do in my job., so i learnt the hard way (loosing power in the middle of no where! - twice!). But an EV is perfect for less than 100miles a day (and you can charge at home), otherwise forget it!

..... but as for the MG4 - its brilliant !! - yes its not a tesla 3 / cupra born, but for the price - its a lot of car for relatively a low amount of money.

As for lease or outright purchase - I tried to get an MG ZS on lease, but the delivery fell through (the order got put back 6 months) (via salary sacrifice - NHS lease Solns.), so I was sort of lucky in that I got a ohme pro charger fitted (£600), and then the MG4 just sort of came along - I just popped along to my local dealer in early sept, had a chat, and said that I'd have any MG4 (& any colour), and managed to get one - 3 weeks later.

Mine has the LFP battery which has a bit more longevity, but lower day to day range. Done 4000 miles so far, all personal use (holidays etc.), .... not had a single issue (well aside for connecting an iphone 12 - but has just been resolved!) - charge at home 95% of time (just plug & forget for cheap overnight charging), and I just use the fast chargers via the Bonnet app, when away from home, again no issues with charging (sometimes you may have to wait for a charger, but no issue, as its a bit like caravaning in that everyone chats to each other, and helps each other out ) ....

.... of course you cant use (easily) an EV with a caravan currently.

Yes it does help and thank you for taking your time to respond.
I guess the biggest issue we have is that we love our Fiesta. And it will be sad to have to get rid of it because it has been fantastic. But it is getting close to 5 years old and still has a reasonable amount of equity. But its value is going down while the price of the MG4 has just gone up.
Anyway we are going to test drive the MG4 next week and will make a decision then. I want to change but my wife wants to keep the Fiesta!

Price hasn't gone up on the MG website yet, still £25995 for SE SR

Quick question.
When you say it came with the LFP battery.
Is this not standard or an extra?

If you look on Autotrader the SE SR's that are over £26k all have upgraded paint.
Deals out there as well

Clarks in Kidderminster are offering a brand new Blue MG4 SESR for £24995

Is the granny charger supplied with the car? A dealer has told me no… but they supply a type 2? Is that incorrect?

Have just joined the forum, ordered an SE-LR in white after having a test drive on thursday and being very impressed. Already own a Kia EV6 which we will be keeping, so giving up ICE cars totally once the Mini goes. Only decided to get a second EV earlier in the week and considered a few others, but looked at the MG and for the price its appears to be a decent car. The car was ordered at pre-increase price and 16 week lead time in theory!
I have been reading some of the other posts on the forum and they have raised a wry smile. Lots of issues same or similar to EV6 owners, mine currently has an intermittent heating issue, but other than that has been fine. As an early adopter, got mine in March you have to be aware of issues arising, but hopefully will be resolved in due course as fixes and updates found.
However I think its a great car and draws attention from other road users when charging or parked, due to its looks and not currently many on the road, I think the MG4 will be the same.

Jealous that you have an EV6, my wife and I test drove it on release and would have placed an order immediately, and here is the but, I had outstanding finance that would not finish till March / April 23, and the lead delivery time was quoted 12 months I know in reality it would have been beyond that, also price. I know you are seeing all the negative points here on the 4 , it would be interesting to know if you are part of any EV6 forum that is also posting 'issues and niggles' given this car was new from the ground up. Is their - your experience of these the same ? I am guessing that all this negativity is not deterring you from the purchase ? I have a pragmatic view that even though mine is due mid - late Jan, a lot of these ' irritations' will be sorted and remaining will be addressed.
I have noticed that a lot of complaints all fall into the same area so it doesn't phase me.
Good luck with your 4 experience (y)

Hi
Thanks lfc958 for your reply. I touched lucky when I ordered the EV6 around this time last year, as a few where in build in the colour and spec I wanted, so was allocated one straight away and was literally shipped a few days later. If I had left it until January, it would been sometime this year in theory!
Im on a few EV6 forums and they mostly echo the same issues and niggles, which to be honest its to be expected on brand new designs of cars. Its never been any different, cars are mechanical and electronic items and can develop faults. Some people are unfortunate and have problems and others never do, I have experienced both over the years.
Attached is photo of the EV6 upon pick up from the dealer before it went to a specialist detailer. I no longer allow dealers to valet the car prior to collection, but thats another story!

I would just look forward to owning the MG4 and enjoy the experience, we are totally hooked on EV’s and Im a died in the wool petrol head!

Welcome to the forum CooperS! Fellow SE-LR in white on order. Hopefully coming in late January. I was equally impressed by the MG4 on my test drive and posted about my impressions on the forum. This is a great place to get advice and the hints and tips sticky post at the top of the forum is very useful.

Hello FiferMG4 thanks for the welcome, no doubt your counting down the days until yours arrives, Im sure it will be worth it.
