MG4 Software Update Thread

Issues I am aware of on R59:
  • Still some bluetooth issues.
  • CarPlay problems with fails to connect if connected too soon, disconnects, forgets car is RHD, plus A/C dropdown no longer works from CarPlay screen.
  • Some people still report radio problems.
  • Wifi hotspot has DNS bug, stopping some from using it.
  • Reports that some of the new shortcuts on the right menu pull down don't work.

R63 might fix some, I doubt all.

There's also minor feature stuff like the infotainment screen can't change the lighting according to levels mentioned by the light sensor, which many other cars do have.
Don't forget the bonus bugs it will introduce too!

Firstly I don't have R59 , I am on R33. I have seen posts on Facebook referring to R59 which apparently still has Bluetooth connection issues , dab radio issues , as well as the wifi hotspot issues that many people have reported. It is due to some of these issues that some users have been told by their dealers that a new version (R63) is imminent to address these issues. It remains to be seen wether or not it will fix the problems . I hope it does , then maybe I can finally get mine updated. Although I will miss the far better looking original HVAC screen.?
I had BT issues pre R59, but that is all fine now, although my wireless charger does not work after R59 update (it did before, but I don't need it) so I just use wired CarPlay. Can't be sure if this is hardware or software related, but will raise it. Also, OPD is the most effective & easy driving mode, so will request that is added to dropdown shortcuts menu, rather than going through another screen, which is slow to show on initial boot up. It's also important to know if module updates are required with the pending R63.

I wonder if there maybe related modules that need updating also. Is it the tech email address used to feedback to MG? I'd like to see OPD added to the dropdown driving menu, which really should be the default mode. Infotainment should wake from sleep for faster access, rather than 10-15sec boot up. If they are not going to do OTA, they should just remove the check for update button!

Removing the check for update button would require an update!

Another one: you cannot turn off the light of the infotainment on R59, whereas you could do it with previous ones (disable "show clock"). It stays black, but with all the screen light bleeding

The SE does that on R33 which I find too bright. If this change was not intended, it would be nice if it reverts on the next release.

I didn't realise it ever did that. My first night sleeping in the car was the night after it was upgraded to R33. I just put a blackout curtain over the screens and the central console, which worked, and meant it was easy to lift the curtain and change the temperature if necessary.

You're probably right that it's a bug that has been introduced. q.v. the external temperature readout.

I wish I was in that boat! Mine's tested every time it brakes for no reason and for those split seconds I watch the car behind, hoping they've noticed my car's gone rogue!

Mine has only done an emergency stop once in 17 months, and over 13,000 miles. A pedestrian looked as if he was about to cross right in front of me, so it wasn't a false alarm. I haven't changed any sensitivity that I'm aware of. I think a car that does that often has a fault. (The incident that happened was when the car was only five weeks old, so it's gone 16 months without activating at all.)

I too have only had one emergency stop, at around 30mph with no other cars around. There was a pedestrian on the side of the road but no imminent danger. It would be scary if it happened when travelling fast, but I haven't experienced that.

Mine does emergency stops when turning right (it sees oncoming traffic and thinks there will be a collision). It doesn't happen all the time but is often enough to be problem.

I'm stuck with the official fix I have been given which is to turn it off every drive.

Have you turned the sensitivity down to low? I have not had the problem since I did.

I feel lucky not to have experienced any of this. The only hiccup was initially my android phone wouldnt connect but I bought a better cable and no problems since.

That's terrible! Ever since mine went off on that one occasion I've felt reassured that it's there and very reluctant to turn it off.
