This is a key area where MG is going wrong - different versions for variants of the same car is crazy, no wonder dealers don't want to mess with things. The core hardware should be mostly the same.
Do we even know if R33 for the SE is feature parity with latest R59 (e.g: OPD, latest menu shortcuts, ACC 5 mile increments etc)?
I presume R59 is also latest for the Trophy then (as Xpower derived from it) - e.g: two versions R33, R59?

R33 for SE came out before R59 for trophy but has the same change, adding shortcut for LKA
ACC increment is a different firmware
As far as I know the SE doesn't have OPD

There are some key difference we have been trying to establish. In 11R0033 you can switch off the car from the drop down nenu

I repeatedly asked R59 owners to verify how the drop down menu and other overlays work in Apple CarPlay with no answer.
If the overlay change comes to 1100Rxx I want to know how will CarPlay be affected as it’s essential for SE owners to access navigation apps

The menu dropdown overlay does not work for R59 in CarPlay view. You need to press Home button, which is why we need a CarPlay/AAuto option for shortcut buttons and maybe even a dedicated hardware button for future updates. You can also switch off car from R59

MG really should standardise on the one version.
OPD should be the default driving mode for ALL EV's as it's FAR superior to any other method, e.g: town driving you don't need to touch brakes, making driving more relaxing.
OPD will also have to be standard for SE in future, reasons as above, but also, all cars will have it.

My workaround when they removed the CarPlay shortcut option in R33 was to use Siri and ask to open Maps

The overlay works on 1300R46 but not R40 or R59
R46 doesn't have power off

Neither does R59

Unlikely to add overlay feature as they've removed it for a reason

I wonder if SE 1100R33 uses a different Android version vs 1300R59? On the SE the overlay/pulldown menu works just fine when AA is being shown.

Just rang my local MG garage (Southport). They are saying the earliest they can book it in is the first week in October! What's people's experiences with their local MG dealers and booking in?

Lucky you. I wanted R33 for my SE, and begged them practically with tears in my eyes to do that at my car's first service in April. It was returned to me still on R13 with a lot of shoulder-shrugging and hand-waving. Booked in about four weeks later to do it. I waited three hours and the technician came out and said he couldn't get the update to work but he'd be back in touch. Come July, total radio silence, and I emailed in a bit of a strop. OK then, but we want it in all day just in case and the first day we can let you have a courtesy car is 5th September.

They finally managed it last Friday. And the left star button won't hold its selection, just as some others have reported. But overall it's such a joy compared to R13 I'm grinding my teeth flat in frustration about all these months spent without it. It'll soon be a year since it came out.

Could we please keep this thread for the SE infotainment system. There are other threads dealing with the Trophy, and it's very confusing when they're mixed up. That was the reason this thread was started in the first place.

It was relevant as I asked whether r59 did something to the overlay system: if this Android update comes to the SE, it’s going to be pain so important to know.

That's fine, but can we just not allow this to become a digression into Trophy software? I think more people here have Trophys than SEs, and every discussion tends to get swamped by Trophy information and anecdotes.

I'm very very pleased indeed with R33, although I haven't explored every wrinkle yet. I think I do have the problem of the left star button not holding its programming though.

Actually that's my one disappointment. I thought it was going to be possible to toggle between ACC and TJA with the button - that's the function I want. But no, it's driving mode or regen setting. Actually with these choices I'd have been happier if they'd just left it tuned to Android Auto.

Someone further up said categorically that the change in sensitivity of the light sensor was not a feature of R33. I rather think it is. I had all the other updates done in April and the light sensitivity was unchanged. Now I've got R33 it has changed very noticeably. I'll have to experiment with which of the two alternative covers I have works best now.

I thought I didn't mind occasionally flipping back to the home screen to see the external temperature or check on HVAC settings and so on, but now I have the display permanently visible I find it really so much better. This is the software the car should have been launched with. It's absolutely ridiculous that MG are being so obstructive about updating earlier cars.

Ironically, they gave me the boss's Kia Soul as a courtesy car. (Someone pranged the wee petrol MG3 I had last time.) That damn thing handed me three text messages on its central screen every time I got in. First there was a long screed about driving carefully which covered the entire screen and had to be acknowledged before you could see anything. Then there was something about terms having been changed and did you want to read the new T&Cs now. I had usually already driven off by the time that appeared, and had to cancel it while driving. Then there was one telling the owner that THERE WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE DUE FOR THE CAR, please arrange to have this applied.

So their Kias are telling the owners to come and have the latest version at the same time they're refusing to let MG4 owners upgrade a car that's four version numbers behind the times.

@Rolfe you just long press the Pilot button to switch between TJA and ACC (steering wheel button)

The Kia upgrade message is for OTA upgrades no need to pop into the dealership.

I think I said this. That was the assumption, given that so many things are not controlled by the infotainment.

There are updates to other car modules they seem to do as part of updating the infotainment - presumably for compatibility.

So either it is that or you are right that this actually controlled by the infotainment.

In my case it changed after both a lot of updates AND an infotainment update which I hadn't asked for but I was told was required to go with the other updates.

Possible they also did other updates like IPK or BCM at the same time?
IMO it sounds as if they've updated one of the IPK calibration files rather than it being controlled by the FICM

It's possible you're both right, because they did talk about updating two modules. Although the one that smooths out ACC and changes the operation of the speed control was done in April. Also the one that lets the car pre-heat while it's plugged in.

I also mentioned the LKA update prompted by the Which? article and asked if that could be done at the same time, if it was available. The technician actually said he thought the updates he'd just applied might do that, and for sure R33 doesn't do that. But I don't think he's right, I expect another round to get the LKA thing done in due course.
