An observation, albeit not necessarily related to 1100R38 ... I charged my car overnight last night and so the charge point was in the Waiting state this morning. Whilst still plugged in but not charging I activated the remote HVAC to defrost the car ... after a short while I noticed the lights in the charge port were green. So my car officially recharges the HV battery if you use a feature which tries to drain power from the HV battery.
This is what I wanted to ask about. Last Friday was the first time since I had the upgrade that I've wanted to heat the battery and the cabin before leaving, but still leave on 100%. It wasn't entirely straightforward.
First I set a timed battery heating to go while the car was charging during the off-peak rate period, just to give it a start, as it had been sitting in a freezing garage for a couple of days. That went OK, and the car was at 100% when I got up.
I noticed that the app recommended heating the battery 90 minutes before departure, so when I got up I started battery heating manually at about 8 am. However it only seemed to heat for 15-20 minutes, possibly because of me having heated it in the middle of the night. It took about 2% out of the car battery, and I had to initiate charging manually to get it back up to 100%. Just before nine I tried asking it to heat the battery again, but got a message that the battery didn't need heating, so that was OK, it had held the heat for over half an hour anyway. Just after nine I asked it to heat the cabin, and it brought the internal temperature up from 3°C to 16° in ten minutes, which was very welcome. But that took another 2% from the battery so I had to get the car to recharge again.
It worked, I went out to a car with a warm battery and a warm cabin, and a battery at 100%. It wasn't a huge faff, but I had to keep fiddling with my phone while I was eating breakfast and sorting out the automatic cat feeders. I was wondering if there was any way I could have made it easier, maybe automated it?
I'm also wondering what the protocol is with the new software.
