Seems there are some very different practices. My dealer was even willing to give me a copy of a confidential technical bulletin.That's weird. I always had to sign a sheet for any and every single update they did. Last time there were four different sheets, IIRC. It was the LKA update, the heater update and two other ones that were due and that I wasn't even aware of beforehand. Every sheet and update had a specific code (HE-32 in case of the heater update, I forgot the other ones). If I understood correctly they can't charge the bill on MG's tab if they don't do proper documentation.
I would imagine part of this is not wanting to have to explain to a non-tech-savvy customer base, part bureaucracy and part attitude.
