MG4 Software Update Thread

That's weird. I always had to sign a sheet for any and every single update they did. Last time there were four different sheets, IIRC. It was the LKA update, the heater update and two other ones that were due and that I wasn't even aware of beforehand. Every sheet and update had a specific code (HE-32 in case of the heater update, I forgot the other ones). If I understood correctly they can't charge the bill on MG's tab if they don't do proper documentation.
Seems there are some very different practices. My dealer was even willing to give me a copy of a confidential technical bulletin.

I would imagine part of this is not wanting to have to explain to a non-tech-savvy customer base, part bureaucracy and part attitude.

Thanks for sharing this. Remember watching his videos while waiting delivery of mine. What a horrendous ownership experience for him, quite frankly, appalling service from MG. It seems the quality of service and support varies enormously from dealer to dealer, though this is probably the case for many car brands? I must say the service and support I've had from MG Beaconsfield over the last couple of weeks have been very good.
It seems to me that they need someone at MG to set a standard to be followed by all dealerships. Otherwise it's a 'cowboy country' experience for customers.

Note that the Cyberster will only be sold in 25 'Premier' dealers, so those might be the ones to head for.
Premier dealers, do you know where they are located ?...... Personally i'd like to see a high level of customer service at all dealerships, not just some with the rest left to deliver as cheaply as possible and make it up as they go .

Yes, I signed but thinking about it I May have signed beforehand while the guys were talking to me about the issues. I didn’t even think about it at the time. Distraction technique.

I have seen reference to an update for Trophy's which allegedly fixes the Bluetooth unpairing issue. Has anyone here had it and can confirm it works? I have e mailed my dealer to ask but don't expect a reply until Monday.

I asked for this to be done as I’ve had a few Bluetooth dropping events. Dealer said they couldn’t replicate it and to keep an eye out for it and advise if it happens again.

Gonna be very difficult to replicate I think as it doesn’t happen all the time.

I've found the hardware of this car largely good, but the software is not great at all, and Hyundai's efforts make it look amatuer. The garage I collected my car from was some way away, but as Glyn Hopkins now does MG in MK near me, I've booked in there for software updates end of next month.

I've had all sorts of random issues, not limited to, but here are some of them:

ecall system fault
Lka over aggressive
Dashboard doesn't always load properly/crashes
Autohold fault
Audio doesn't always work until radio has radio media played
Heating very inefficient
Doesn't remember drive mode
Bluetooth MAC address regularly changes/forgets and have to re-pair
Power consumption history doesn't work

All sorts of random stuff really. The bluetooth bugs and the not loading properly bugs are probably the most annoying, but I'm looking forward to the LKA updates too as that and the radar suddenly thinking there is something in front of me have caught me off guard a few times.

Honestly if I could have the hardware/battery of this MG4, with Hyundai's software (and maybe heating config as that was WAY more efficient it seems) I'd be laughing. I do hope MG resolve it as they need to bring it up to scratch for all users, especially as we have paid not insignificant money for the car.

I've already reported it to my dealer as a

I've already reported this to my dealer on 2 occasions as recurring but not constant problem so I don't think they have to replicate it. It is a known issue which I asked them to log with MG. If there is an update I will expect to have it installed.

Another example of the inconsistency between dealers.

Sorry if the answer has long been known and I've not read it but I take it you can't do any of your own software updates from the car without it having to go to the dealer to do? In the settings of the car you can check for updates however when they are available can you install them (much like you would on a mobile phone) or is it dealer authorised only? Bit annoying if so. Thought I had seen before getting the car that it supported OTA which if so, led me to think it was done much like on regular devices we have in our homes. Anyone clarify?
Alas not. The OTA isn't active yet and is only for updating the infortainment. The car system modules are not visible or updatable by owners.
Yet l’ll accept that - firmware level updates could easily brick the car on a driveway.

As above.

But mine is also R13, and I feel no urgency to update to R16 (which is known to be the latest for the SE, but which loses the temperature indication).
